    2018 Volleyball All-Conference Teams Announced

Congratulations to all of the talented, hard-working student-athletes and coaches who have been recognized for their performance during the 2018 volleyball season.

Check out many of the athletes below at our 2018 Volleyball Final Fours this weekend.

    2018 MCAC Women's Volleyball Co-Most Valuable Players

    Shayna Staerk

    Providence University Pilots

From Pilots head coach Kyle Guenther...

"Shayna is a special player. On to the court, she is a gifted athlete. Shayna is a very strong and efficient attacker. She also leads our team in digs and is one of our most reliable passers. On top of that, she has a great serve and racks up many aces in a season. Shayna is such a well-rounded player that can have an impact on all facets of the game. Through her career here, she has learned to perform really well under pressure and faces the big moments head on. That’s something really admirable about her character and something you really want out of one of your leaders. She has been a huge part of our success this year and will be greatly missed after she graduates this spring.

Much like on the court, Shayna is gifted off the court as well. While being a very good student and athlete, she also finds time to give back to the game by coaching a 13U Girls team in our club program. Her selfless character is evident and inspiring."

    Ashley Goodwin

    Red River College Rebels

From Rebels head coach Dan McGregor...

"After a few years away from the game Ashley has returned to form of being one of the top high school volleyball players in the province. It is rare to find a middle player that can be both dominant in the front and back row, but Ashley has shown that she is a well-rounded player and worked hard to show that she deserves to play through the back row as well. Ashley brings a positive attitude to all practices and games, and has a desire to be the best player she can be by always being focused in practices and asking a lot of questions on what she can do to improve."

2018 MCAC Men's Volleyball Most Valuable Player

    Matthew Friesen

    Providence University College Pilots

From Pilots head coach Scott Masterson...

“Matt is a great volleyball player, teammate and person. He is a natural athlete and most skills seem to come easily for him. At the same time, he works very hard to improve every day, pushing himself to be better at every opportunity. By having that mindset he naturally makes his teammate better. Matt finished the season with 236 kills in 389 attempts (the most on our team) with a 46.53 attacking % and he has a league-leading 4.07 kill average. Matt also excels at passing and general ball control. These skills, coupled with a great sense of the game, have helped Matt be one of the most consistent and effective players in the league.

I am very happy for him that he can receive this recognition and I know it will only provide more motivation for him to keep working hard and helping his teammates be the best they can be.
Matt is also helping coach our 18U boy's club volleyball team as an assistant coach. It’s really great to see him taking the extra time out of his schedule to invest in the lives and skills of younger players. It is nice to know that a quality person like Matt is having a positive impact on the lives of younger men.”
