Jacob Penner named Week 10 Athlete of the Week

Jacob Penner is a large part of the reason the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers were so competitive in the first half of the season.

Standing at 6'8" with feet that can really move, his body positioning and passion that he shows on the court make him not only a Week 10 Athlete of the Week, but he could be a force during his time spent in the MCAC. Currently in his rookie season, Penner posted 25 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block in a Blazers's Week 10 redemption over the U of W, handing the Wesmen their first loss of the season.

“I feel like I had a pretty good game, my teammates supported me really well”, says Penner.
"When they threw a 2-3 zone on us, it surprised us pretty good. They went on an 8-0 run there that kinda scared us but coach called a timeout, drew up a couple plays and we kind of relaxed again and played our game". And as far as this being Penner's first season in the MCAC, Penner says so far, so good playing with CMU's John Hayter, another standout player in the MCAC. "John is an excellent player, I'm blessed to play on a team with him. I'm loving it in my first year and I'm getting a feel for playing with him. "
CMU head coach, Billy Isaac, believes that when Penner can control his emotions, he is a very big threat on the floor. “He’s playing great. He’s a presence inside and I think he’s learning to play a lot more with his feet and less with his hands”, says CMU head coach, Billy Isaac.

Penner and the Blazers now sit 3rd in the MCAC rankings with a 3-5 record among a very competitive field. Their next game is on January 30th against the Providence University Colllege Pilots.
