Ryan Jensen named Week 4 Athlete of the Week

The Canadian Mennonite University men's soccer team is in first place in the conference and their rookie midfielder, Ryan Jensen, is fitting in with the program nicely.

After being named the 2014 u18 Player of the Year by Winnipeg's Bonivital Soccer Club, it was expected that Jensen would bring a certain pedigree to CMU's program in his first season. But with 8 goals through 7 games and a knack for creating offense, Jensen is well on his way to making a mark in the MCAC.

“When play gets into the attacking third of the field, Ryan’s ability to dribble and penetrate the opponent’s backline is amongst the best in the conference" says CMU's head coach, Russell Willms. "He is a great playmaker and finisher and is becoming a top player in the conference already in his first season.”

The 5'9" Jensen is third in the league in scoring with three games to play in the regular season, the next being played against Red River College on October 10th at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex. The Blazers are amidst a tight race in the conference to qualify for the MCAC Championship being held at Providence University College on October 25th and 26th. The second place PUC Pilots have a game in hand and are currently only 1 point ahead of the Brandon University Bobcats. As far as men's soccer is concerned, the MCAC is still very much up for grabs.
