Jaycee Castle named Week 4 Athlete of the Week

After two goals in Brandon University's win over Canadian Mennonite University last Sunday and a solid 2015 MCAC campaign so far, Jaycee Castle is Week 4's MCAC Athlete of the Week.

The Bobcats' 3-2 win over CMU on October 4th secured them second place in the league by a hefty margin over the third place Blazers. The Bobcats trail the undefeated Red River College Rebels by just three points in the standings, and according to Bobcats head coach Rainer Schira, Castle has had a huge role in that.

"Her goal scoring threat often forces defenders to concentrate on her, which creates opportunities for others to score. She has started every game and has one of the highest playing times on our team. She's also a natural leader in games and in practice".

Along with being named the team's captain, Castle leads the Bobcats with 8 goals on the season, good for second-most in the league. Much like Castle, BU has displayed a well balanced attack this season. Their only two losses of the season have been to Red River on September 13th and 26th, both by a goal apiece.

"She works hard behind the scenes to keep everyone organized and informed", says Schira. "She has also created an atmosphere of friendliness and support while also helping to push each teammate to pursue excellence during practice.  She brings an intensity to the field that pushes others to do their best."

Castle and the Bobcats hope to end their season on a winning note with their last game against Assiniboine Community College on October 17th at Brandon University. From there they'll compete for the MCAC Championship hosted by Providence University College on October 25th and 26th.
