Rae-Lyn Dyck named Week 4/5 Athlete of the Week

On a score-by-committee type team like Red River, players need to play hard on both ends of the pitch in order for the team to be effective. For the Rebel’s, they have a player who leads by example by playing an unselfish, team-first brand of soccer. That player is Rae-Lyn Dyck.

The second-year player played a textbook match last weekend in the 4-0 victory against Assiniboine Community College, with a big contribution to the shutout, as well as generating scoring chances of her own.

“Rae-Lyn did a tremendous job of disrupting the opposition's efforts to move the ball from the midfield to their strikers,” says head coach Doug Lawrie. “She also consistently provided precision passes to transition our team from defense to offence, and was an offensive threat herself all game.”

Her strong play comes to the surprise of no one, as Dyck was selected as an MCAC All-Conference player last season, and is proving to be just as effective in 2013.

Red River will need Dyck to continue her strong play, as they have a huge two weeks in front of them. With a game in hand on CMU, and a game against them next week, Red River will have a very real shot in contending for that second seed going into the playoffs.

Dyck is currently in her second year at Red River, and is enrolled in the Hospitality and Tourism Management program.

Because there was only one conference game in Week 4, the two weeks have been combined to provide a larger selection pool.
