Kailey Lefko named Week 9 Athlete of the Week

The story lines have changed this season in MCAC women’s volleyball, and never has that been more obvious than after Week 9.

With six talented teams jockeying back and forth for the top spot, Saint-Boniface laid a Nov. 6 three-set shocker on Canadian Mennonite University to bump themselves up into leading contention, albeit in a very young season.

It also gave Les Rouges their second win, one more than they earned in the entirety of 2011-12.

Leading the team was 23-year-old Kailey Lefko, a setter with a myriad of talents. These include, as Saint-Boniface women’s volleyball head coach Martin Rochon points out, a knack for distributing the ball, making smart decisions, and scoring on her serve.

Though it’s just Lefko’s second season playing for Les Rouges, she has a strong background in volleyball, including having the head coach position for girl’s volleyball at Collége Jeanne-Sauvé, her alma mater.

If Saint-Boniface, right now in fourth place, were to make the playoffs, it would be their first trip since the 2009-10 season when their Final 4 presence was assured with only four competing teams.
