Brad Angus named Week 11 Athlete of the Week

It’s a timeline known to Manitoba for many years.

It’s late November, the snow is falling, and Red River College is dominating men's volleyball in the MCAC.

In a week where they rolled through Université de Saint-Boniface (Nov. 17) and CMU (Nov. 20) in six total sets, a team effort was highlighted by right side Brad Angus, one of many newcomers to the Rebels team.

The 6’4” Angus, who recorded 16 kills, ten digs and five solo blocks in the two matches, brings CIS pedigree to an already experienced team, having played last year at the University of Winnipeg. All along, though, he had plans to play for the winners of four of the last five volleyball championships.

“Brad had planned on attending Red River since he was in grade eleven,” said Rebels head coach Dan Gilbert.

“We are very fortunate that he used last year to gain valuable experience playing in the CIS league. Having coached him previously with the Provincial Team Program, I was confident that his excellent work ethic and positive attitude would help our program significantly once he joined us.”

“In the last few matches, we have really seen him take his game to a new level.”

Despite having identical 7-1 records with the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen, the Rebels have only lost four sets in the first half of the season to edge into the holiday break’s top seed.

Angus, a graduate of Dakota Collegiate, is working towards a diploma in electrical engineering.
