Kathleen McCullough Named Week 13 Athlete of the Week

With her women’s basketball team a distant third heading into a matchup with the touted Red River Rebels, head coach Christie Anne McCullough of Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) needed a new face to step up.

That face was Kathleen McCullough. Spurring her team to a surprise Saturday win, 69-66 in overtime, McCullough had her first career double-double, pouring in 20 points to go with 10 rebounds. In a hotly contested Friday loss, she added eight points and 17 rebounds to what was a dominant weekend for the second-year forward.

"She set her mind to playing hard and bringing down strong rebounds, and her hard work paid off," said CMU head coach Christie Anne McCullough. "She was the most focused I have ever seen."

"She understands that she is undersized and therefore works extra hard to outwork and outmuscle her opponent."

With the win, CMU improved to eight points and are now within striking distance of University of Winnipeg and Red River College, just four points back with five weeks to play.

The 5’8” McCullough is studying psychology and grew up in Outlook, Saskatchewan.
