Around the Conference – Men's and Women's 2017 Soccer Final Four Previews

The 2017 men's and women's soccer Finals Fours kick off tomorrow at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg with the women squaring off at 12:00 PM and the men afterward at 2:15 PM.

Below you'll find each of the competing programs previews for their teams and their upcoming matches.

    Providence University College Pilots

It wasn’t the most auspicious of starts for the Providence Pilots women’s soccer team. Looking to build on last season’s fourth-place finish and 9-3 defeat in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference semi-finals, and following months of aggressive recruitment, they lost their first three matches of 2017 by a combined score of 6-0.
Their male counterparts will be looking to share the day with them—hoping to complete a soccer double for Providence.
Coming off a fourth-place finish and extra-time defeat to the Red River College Rebels in last year’s MCAC semi-final, the Pilots men won eight of their ten matches in 2017 en route to the regular season title. Earlier this week they also earned a place in the National Christian College Athletic Association’s prestigious Top 10 ranking of Division II United States schools, and like the Providence women they’re expecting to contend at next month’s NCCAA North Region Tournament in Minneapolis MN.

    Canadian Mennonite University Blazers

It's another weekend of possibilities for Men's Soccer as they prepare to embark on the 2017 MCAC Men's Soccer Championship Semifinals on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers snuck into the the MCAC Final Four at the last possible moment, defeating the fifth place Red River Rebels 6-1 in their final regular season match to finish five points clear of the team that ended CMU's Championship hopes in 2016.

It took until the seventh match of the 2017 MCAC Women's Soccer Regular Season for any opponent to score a goal against CMU, and yet a place in the Championship Final Fours was not certain until the final game of the season; a 0-0 draw on Sunday versus Red River Rebels.

    Brandon University Bobcats

The Bobcats women's soccer team will look to defend their MCAC championship while the men will look to improve after missing out on the playoffs last season.
