Jade Barrault named Week 8 Athlete of the Week

You won’t find 5’3” defender Jade Barrault on most scoresheets and you may not even see her at first if you caught a Brandon Bobcats soccer game. But it doesn’t really matter to her, because she didn’t lose a game this season and got to be part of the MCAC Championship-winning team for the first time in school history.
And when you do finally notice Barrault on the field, because you will, it will be a chance ruined for the other team and a change of direction in play. A bullet with the added ability of turning sharp corners, Barrault was a shutdown defender for the Bobcats who were a defensive power in 2016. Head coach Rainer Schira knows just how valuable Barrault, a third-year product from Portage la Prairie, is to the best team in the MCAC.

“With only 6 goals against all season, and only 1 goal conceded in the final four tournament, our defence has been an incredible team. They brought us the best goals-against record in the league this season. Anchoring that team at every turn was Jade. Her unmatched speed made her incredibly efficient in shutting down our opposition. She matched that speed with a sense of anticipation and body position that allowed her to get between forwards and the ball time and time again. She played every minute this weekend [of the Final Fours].

Brandon University competes in the MCAC in both men’s and women’s soccer and futsal. Futsal season begins on January 13th, 2017.
