Sonia Radi Named Week 7 Female Athlete of the Week

With only six players suited up for their match against Canadian Mennonite University on October 30, Sonia Radi took the reins for the Providence College Freemen by leading her team to a 69-66 win. An amazing feat over the defending champion Blazers, as two Freemen fouled out leaving Radi’s team to finish the game with only four on the floor.

The sophomore guard had career highs in both points (28) and rebounds (16), and added 3 assists and 2 steals. “She actually hit two clutch free throws in the final seconds to ice the game,” said Freemen assistant coach Graham Bodnar via email. “Although the basketball season is just underway, she’s had a great two game stretch already.

Indeed she has. Radi put in a comparable performance the night before against the Blazers with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Radi was also named Athlete of the Week by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Div.II for the week of of October 25-31. She is the only Canadian to be given the nod by the NCCAA this season. http://www.thenccaa.org/athlete_week.html
