MCAC Executive Director Wedlake Awarded 2009 "Good Guy"

On Sunday evening at the annual awards ceremony for the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference executive director Bill Wedlake was awarded the “Dallas Beck Good Guy Award.”

The event took place at the Delta Hotel in downtown Winnipeg, with a variety of sports personalities from across Manitoba in attendance. Wedlake was on hand to personally accept the award.

“I am really honoured to receive this recognition,” said Wedlake in an interview before the event.

Following a brief retirement from his involvement in local amateur sport, Wedlake is presently working tirelessly as the MCAC attempts to gain membership in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA).

The CCAA is the largest intercollegiate sport organization in Canada with 109 member institutions currently representing five regional athletic conferences – the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association, the Fédération Québecoise du Sport Étudiant, the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association, the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, and the British Columbia Colleges’ Athletic Association.

Membership in the CCAA would allow Manitoba schools to compete for national championships in sports such as basketball, volleyball, and hockey. MCAC affiliate status in the CCAA could come as soon as fall 2009.
