MCAC Appoints Their First Communications Coordinator

In a move to increase communications between the newly named Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference and the media across Manitoba, the MCAC has announced the hiring of Darrin Bauming as their first communications coordinator.

Bauming, a second-year Creative Communications student at Red River College’s Princess Street Campus in downtown Winnipeg, is pursuing a career in broadcast production and journalism.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity. To work with such an experienced person as Bill Wedlake is a real honour,” said Bauming. “I’m looking forward to learning a lot from him.”

Bill Wedlake, the recently appointed executive director of the MCAC, has developed a brand new marketing and public awareness campaign for Manitoba collegiate athletics. It will be Bauming’s job to alert the media of MCAC news and scores, as well as increase hits on the MCAC website by keeping online content fresh and up to date. Bauming will also write feature articles on outstanding athletes in collegiate sports such as hockey, badminton, volleyball, basketball, and soccer.

During the 2007-08 basketball season, Bauming was the courtside announcer for Red River College’s Men’s and Women’s basketball teams. He also announced at the former Central Plains Athletic Conference (now MCAC) Final Four Basketball Championships. This season he will resume announcing duties for Red River College Sports, including Men’s and Women’s volleyball.
